Northern Cambria school consolidation project to resume

Northern Cambria school officials said they are resuming their project looking to consolidate the high school and the elementary-middle school.

This comes just a few days after the project was postponed during a school board meeting Monday to give new board members time to learn the details about the project.

Officials said they are continuing the construction because at this point, they are too far into the project.

Head of business and finance and member of the Northern Cambria board of directors Mara Krumenacker said, “It made more sense to me to pay for a project to have it completed rather than pay for a project to have it stop.”

She said the total cost is nearly $30 million and there is still a few million unaccounted for.

School Board President Kevin Krug said he opposes the project starting back up.

“The school district is listed as the owner. You're not the owner, the contractor is the owner. You have no say in that. The school district has no say in anything that happens in this project just to let you guys know that,” Krug said. “All you did was condemn this district to a huge, huge bill for the next over 30 years. Guaranteed.”

Krumenacker said the goal is to try not raising taxes too much in the area.

“I'm not going to say we are or we aren't because I don't know the answer to that yet,” Krumenacker said.

Officials said they are hoping to get construction going again on Monday.

The superintendent at Northern Cambria Laura Fisanick said the plan is to have the schools consolidated for the beginning of the 2025 and 2026 school year.
