State Police in Hazleton are releasing more details around the 57-year cold case that was solved this week. 9-year-old Marise Ann Chiverella was raped and murdered on March 18, 1964. Her case went cold. The killer's DNA profile had been checked every month since 2007 against all new DNA data entries. There was a distant genealogy match in 2019. In 2020, a genealogist started working on the case. Eventually, state police found their main suspect- James Paul Forte. He died in 1980- but the DNA matches what was at the crime scene.

Pennsylvania State Police in Hazleton announced today that they have solved a 57-year-old homicide case.
Marise Ann Chiverella was raped and murdered in Hazleton on Wednesday, March 18th, 1964 when she was just 9-years-old. Through investigation over the years, a suspect has finally been identified as the assailant of this brutal crime.
PSP say the investigation has been reviewed annually and since 2007, the killer's DNA has been checked monthly against all new entries into DNA databases.
On Thursday, February 10th, 2022 at 10 AM, a news conference will be held at the Hazle Township Commons Building regarding information on the case.
