HOOVER, Ala. (WBMA) — Carlee Russell, a Hoover woman who disappeared for two days earlier this month, claiming she was kidnapped, admitted to making up the story.
In a statement released by her attorney and read by Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis during a news conference Monday afternoon, Russell said there was no kidnapping.
She also admitted that she never saw a toddler running along Interstate 459 that led to her making a 911 call, moments before she disappeared.
Russell said she never left the Hoover area and had no help from anyone during the time she was gone. She also added she never stayed at a hotel, like some online rumors suggested.
Derzis said Russell had agreed to a second interview Monday, but the police department received the statement from her attorney instead.
Russell also offered her apologies to the public and asked for prayers .

Derzis said authorities will discuss whether criminal charges against Russell are possible. He added there is a meeting scheduled between Hoover PD and Russell's attorney.
Derzis said the department will request an interview with Russell.
During the police department's last news conference, Derzis said there is no reason to believe there is any threat or danger to the public connected to Russell's disappearance.
Police added that they have not been able to confirm much of the information Russell provided in her initial interview with police.
Police also released details from the investigation which included a search of Russell's possible internet search history in the days leading up to her disappearance.
