CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Cambria County authorities say they are investigating the alleged theft of funds from the Central Cambria wrestling boosters club.
District Attorney Greg Neugebauer confirms that the detectives and state police have launched an investigation into the matter.
"Specific details are not being released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation," Neugebauer adds.
6 News also reached out the Central Cambria School District for comment, who provided the following response.
The District has been made aware of an alleged theft of cash raised by the wrestling booster organization. The alleged theft occurred while the funds were in the custody of the booster organization, and no District employees were involved. Law enforcement officials were immediately made aware of the alleged theft, and multiple agencies and jurisdictions are involved in an active investigation. Although the booster organization is not directly controlled by the Central Cambria Board of Directors or administration, the District has directed the organization to strengthen its procedures and internal controls. Theft or misappropriation of funds that were to be used for the benefit of our student-athletes will not be tolerated, and the District will pursue all legal remedies within our powers.Authorities say more information will be released at a later time.
