DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Need evening plans? If you’re looking for a fun way to support small businesses in the Harrisburg area, tonight’s your chance. It’s the SoMa Block Party. The SoMa area is South of Market Street. It’s an up-and-coming area with bars, restaurants and shops.
The Block Party is one of Bradley Jones’s ideas. He’s the president and CEO of Harristown Property Management. He hopes to bring more businesses to the downtown area by giving them a unique opportunity to test run a space. Cideries, breweries, wineries and distilleries set up shop in one of his spaces for the night and see how they like it. If they love it, they can lease the space.
It’s a win-win for the small businesses and the community. Attendees get introduced to new brands and business owners introduce their products to a new audience.
That’s exactly how it worked for Boneshire Brew Works. The owners decided to participate in the SoMa Block Party and got hooked on the area. Now, they lease the space and have become a SoMa staple.
“We thought it would be a great opportunity to get our name out and have a small little foothold in Harrisburg to grow off of that,” Alex Govelovich said.
Harrisburg’s OG influencer and social-media guru Sara Bozich joined in on the fun to connect businesses to the opportunity and market the event.
“The basis of my whole business is relationships. I love connecting with people. I love connecting people to people,” Bozich said. “Being able to take my relationship with Harristown and put Boneshire here has really been phenomenal.”
Boneshire says the SoMa Block Party helped pull them out of the pandemic slump and get more people in their doors.
The party starts Thursday June 30 at 7:00 p.m. on Third Street just South of Market Street.
“Harrisburg’s awesome. There are great things, great people and great products here,” Bozich said.
