Johnstown, Pa. (WJAC) — West Hills Community Church is moving to a new location, says their lead pastor David Streets.
Church leaders celebrated the move with a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday afternoon.
Streets says the church has been renting space out of the Westmont Church of the Brethren, along Sunshine Avenue in Westmont, since 2014.
The new location of the church is 175 Woodmont Road, near Westmont Hilltop High School in Upper Yoder Township.
Streets says he’s happy to now have a place of their own.
"It'll be ours, and that'll be nice,” said Streets. “At my age, it's not something that I was thinking about doing, but God had other plans."
The church started as a branch of Emmanuel Baptist Church, having its first service at the Westwood Plaza Movie Theater in 2012.
Today, over 500 people call West Hills Community Church their “home church,” including Tony Arcuri.
"It's awesome for Johnstown, that we're actually building a new church. Showing you to God is still on the move, actually, and it's exciting,” Arcuri said.
Streets says after years of searching for the right property, they finally found the perfect spot.
"I feel like this is the place we should be, and I’m just excited for the opportunity,” Streets said.
Church leaders say they expect the new church to be open sometime next summer.
