Juniata County community devastated by shootout that killed one State Trooper, injured another

Two days after a State Trooper was shot and killed and another critically injured in Juniata County, the entire town of Mifflintown is still reeling after what happened.

To Dave Gray, it still feels fresh on his property, where he has dedicated a memorial to the sacrifice Trooper Jacques Rougeau made on Saturday.

Dave was probably the last person to see the shooter, Brandon Stine, before his final shootout with police.

"There's nothing that's gonna convince me that he, that Saturday was gonna be his last day. When I looked him in the face, I knew he wasn't going to go much farther." Dave said.

Dave heard the first round of shots on Saturday afternoon and walked outside.

"And like a big dummy, I get on the front porch and yell. 'Hey, what are you doing?' Looking right at this guy and he's driving through my yard." Dave told CBS 21's Joel D. Smith.

The pursuit continued down Swamp Road to his neighbors' property. You can still see where Stine's pick-up truck ran over a bush, went through a small cornfield and stopped at the tree line.

More than a dozen shots went into a shed as part of the shootout as well. That's where Stine was killed.

Dave took a moment to reflect on what motivated him to create the memorial.

"They are here to protect us. And serve. It's only right to show them respect. Just a young guy. It's a bunch of nonsense...just a bunch of nonsense.
