Following Wednesday night's Johnstown city council meeting, 6 News spoke with mayor Frank Janakovic, who confirmed that city manager Ethan Imhoff gave council a 60-day notice that he'd be stepping down from his position, citing family reasons.

Janakovic says the city will be accepting applications for the new city manager through the end of the month and says he is confident they will have the position filled before Imhoff’s departure.

Also discussed at the meeting was the Johnstown Housing Authority asking the city to be a co-applicant on a grant application that could potentially award the housing authority $500,000 to do a study that will look at the future of public housing in the Coopersdale and Oakhurst neighborhoods.

The study would gather community input and use it to develop strategies on improving housing, transportation and other community related amenities,

The city council ultimately voted not to join the grant application, citing that these housing developments will eventually need replaced, which they say is the responsibility of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

"We're still going to be submitting applications for that planning grant. Our understanding was that with the city as a co-applicant, we would have been able to score some more points. It is a completely scored based system so they're asking for experience in things like economic development and we don't have any experience in the realm, but the city certainly does,” says JHA executive director Mike Alberts.
